The Woman’s Club of Nashville
Founded in 1909 – Reestablished in 1931

Many of us are familiar with how The Woman's Club of Nashville was established by a group of women courageous enough to make change in their community. These women organized the first women's civic club in the State of Tennessee in 1909. The East Nashville Civic Club would grow and be renamed The Woman's Club of Nashville. "On July 31, 1931, the Club was chartered - stating the purpose to be - To bring together women interested in education, civic progress, protection of youth, literary studies and homemaking."

125 years later, the first Women's Civic Club is ours today. We are diverse. We come from all over the country and as far as South Africa. Our occupations are many. Our personalities and friendships are unchanging. We have lost good friends and leaders, but they are not forgotten. We welcome the new friends The Woman's Club introduces us to. Our departments - Education and Personal Enrichment, Fine Arts, Friends, Contemporary Books, Great Books, Garden & Home Decor, Potpourri and Bridge - reflect the goals of our 1931 charter. We work together to support organizations such as Alzheimer's Association, Heimerdinger Foundations, Tennessee National Guard, Scholarship Fund and more without hesitations.
We are The Women's Club of Nashville. Each of us brings and shares so much to the club as individuals and as a group. We are amazing and we can be proud of our clubhouse and our history. - Diana

East Nashville Women's Group -1919

The Woman's Club of Nashville - 2019
A small group of women organized the East Nashville Civic Club on May 30, 1909. The club grew to become effective advocates of public good - especially in philanthropy, the needs of children, and the rights of women.

Through the years, larger demands were met with concerted service. The club’s efforts brought several libraries into existence, better health laws were enacted, and the “City Beautiful” campaign was begun. The club was chartered as The Woman’s Club of Nashville in 1931 by the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs.

We strive to emulate that small group of women with high ideals as we go forward to meet the needs of this new and ever-changing world. We continue the legacy.
